Lake Concerts for a Cause in Middle and East Tennessee
Lake concerts are officially back in Middle and East Tennessee.
At Twin Creeks, we’re all about having fun and making family memories at the lake. That goal is top of mind in everything we do, from building a wedding and events venue to adding an RV resort and our newest waterside cottages, all the way to hosting our live music events at Drafts and Watercrafts.
One project that we are extremely proud of is our lake concert series, and we’re thrilled to announce that lake concerts are back for 2021! But while you have probably attended last year’s show with Sara Evans, you may not know the story behind it. So today we’re sharing how we got started hosting benefit concerts and what’s up next at Twin Creeks.
A deadly disease
Several years ago, one of our Twin Creeks owners, Ken Howell, happened to meet country music artist Anita Cochran (Fight Like a Girl, What If I Said). Anita had just finished two rounds of treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. Wanting to use her experience to aid and inspire others, Anita founded The Love Anchors Fund, an organization that benefits cancer research and provides assistance for those undergoing treatment and who may be unable to work.
The perfect partnership
Both lovers of lake life and live music, Anita and Ken discussed how great it would be to hold benefit concerts at Tims Ford Lake to support various charitable organizations like The Love Anchors Fund. Events like these would offer the community new opportunities for memory-making while helping those in need. So when we were developing Twin Creeks Marina and Resort and saw the opportunity to host amazing lakefront concerts on the property, we knew just who to call!
Lake concerts
Our first benefit series began last year, hosted by Anita and produced by Straybranch Productions. The series culminated with a sold-out, outdoor (socially distanced) concert headlined by Sara Evans. Attendees brought families and sat around fire pits, in VIP seating areas, and on the lawn. We celebrated the end of lake season with terrific performances, great food and drinks, and raised thousands of dollars for The Love Anchors Fund.
Giving Back
The Opry Trust Fund, founded by The Grand Ole Opry Management in 1965, offers financial assistance to country music industry members when they need it most. It was the first organization to help Anita during her fight with cancer. We’re proud to say that on April 24 at the Grand Ole Opry, Anita presented the Opry Trust Fund a check for $10,000, proceeds from the Lights on the Lake event held at Twin Creeks in 2020.
2021 Lake Concert Series - Waves on the Water
This year we are thrilled to announce a brand new concert series benefitting The Love Anchors Fund coming to Middle and East Tennessee. The first Waves on the Water Event kicks off on Saturday, May 15 at 7:00 pm at Tennessee National Amphitheater alongside Watts Bar Lake. Headlined by Terri Clark, the event will host a powerful lineup of musicians. Anita Cochran will host and perform at the event, as will Jamie O’Neal, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Brandy Clark, and newcomer Emily Brooke.
Less than a month later, the first Middle Tennessee event takes place on Saturday, June 12 at 7:00 pm at The Honeysuckle at Twin Creeks Marina and Resort, an open-air event venue on Tims Ford Lake. This intimate lakeside event features performances by Thompson Square and Jerrod Niemann and is hosted by Anita Cochran, who will also give a special performance. Learn more and get your tickets for this safe, socially distanced event today HERE.
We’re so excited to be able to bring world class entertainment to our community while supporting a cause that aids the nearly four million women currently affected by breast cancer in the United States. We hope to see you soon at a lake concert this summer.
